Sean “Diddy” Combs has declined a plea deal offered by federal prosecutors in his ongoing sex trafficking and racketeering case. The 55-year-old music mogul, known for his influential role in the entertainment industry, faces multiple serious charges, including transporting individuals for prostitution and operating a criminal enterprise. Combs has pleaded not guilty to all charges and maintains his innocence.
Combs’ legal team, led by attorney Marc Agnifilo, has outlined a defense strategy that characterizes Combs as a participant in a consensual “swinger” lifestyle. Agnifilo argues that the events in question, referred to as “Freak-Offs,” were consensual and part of a socially accepted subculture, rather than criminal activities. The defense contends that Combs did not engage in coercive or abusive behavior.
In a significant development, a federal judge ruled that jurors in the upcoming trial may view video footage showing Combs allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend, R&B singer Cassie Ventura, in a hotel hallway in 2016. Despite objections from the defense, the judge deemed the video highly relevant to the case. Prosecutors allege that Combs used his influence and a network of associates to coerce and abuse women over several years, orchestrating drug-fueled sexual events involving male sex workers. The trial is scheduled to begin on May 5, 2025, in New York City.
Jury selection for the trial is set to commence on May 5, with opening statements scheduled for May 12. The trial is expected to last between eight to ten weeks. Combs remains in custody without bail as he prepares for the proceedings.
