Chris Evans expressed disappointment about not being part of the upcoming movie Avengers: Doomsday.
In an interview with ScreenRant, Evans, who played Captain America in eight Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films, was asked if he still keeps in touch with his former Marvel co-stars. He confirmed that they stay connected but said it feels different since he left the franchise after Avengers: Endgame.
Evans said, “Yeah, I talk to them all the time. It’s where Pedro [Pascal] is right now. I mean, it’s sad to be away. It’s sad to not be back with the band. But I’m sure they’re doing something incredible, and it’s going to be that much harder when it comes out because you feel like you weren’t invited to the party.”
In Endgame, Evans’ character, Captain America, retires after traveling back in time to return the Infinity Stones. He chooses to stay in the past with Peggy Carter, his true love. In the present, he passes the Captain America role to Sam Wilson, played by Anthony Mackie.
While Evans is stepping back, some of his Avengers co-stars will return for Doomsday. Chris Hemsworth will reprise his role as Thor. Robert Downey Jr. returns as the villain Doctor Doom, instead of Iron Man. Other returning actors include Sebastian Stan as Winter Soldier, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Letitia Wright as Shuri, and Mackie as the new Captain America.
Avengers: Doomsday was originally set to release on May 1, 2026, but has been delayed to December 18, 2026. Its sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, was also postponed. The sequel’s release date moved from May 7, 2027, to December 17, 2027.
