Alicia Silverstone, 48, never thought she would reprise her iconic role as Cher Horowitz from the 1995 movie Clueless. However, after appearing as Cher in Rakuten’s 2023 Super Bowl commercial, she grew excited about returning to the character.
Silverstone told People magazine, “I didn’t [think I’d revisit Cher]. And then I did it for the Super Bowl, yeah, and it was so much fun.”
While she confirmed her involvement, Alicia declined to share any details about the upcoming Clueless TV series reboot or its plot.
Cher’s Impact on Silverstone’s Son
Silverstone shared a touching story about her 14-year-old son Bear, whom she had with ex-husband Christopher Jarecki. Bear first watched Clueless when he was five, though he didn’t fully understand the film. Still, the movie made him start kissing his mom more, which she found sweet.
She recalled, “The only thing he took away was the kiss at the end. He started kissing me more. It was so sweet.”
About the Clueless Reboot
The new Clueless series will be written by Gossip Girl creators Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage, and Jordan Weiss. Amy Heckerling, the original film’s writer and director, will serve as executive producer alongside Silverstone.
This isn’t the first attempt to revive Clueless as a TV show. A 2020 Peacock project didn’t move forward, but a previous series aired from 1996 to 1999 with Rachel Blanchard as Cher.
Silverstone’s Recent Clueless Tributes
In 2021, Silverstone recreated a scene from Clueless with her son on TikTok. She also teamed up with former co-star Stacey Dash to film another scene for social media. Last year, she shared a Cher montage to celebrate 27 years since the film’s release, captioning it: “27 years ago, a bad b**** was born … Happy anniversary, Cher! #Clueless #AsIf #90s.”
Fans eagerly await the new series as Silverstone brings Cher back to life once again.
