LOS ANGELES — June 12, 2025 — A newly imposed curfew in downtown Los Angeles has led to the cancellation of multiple entertainment events, as city officials respond to unrest following recent protests.
Mayor Karen Bass announced the curfew on Tuesday, placing a one-square-mile section of downtown under restrictions beginning at 8 p.m. The curfew may remain in effect for several nights. The move comes after daytime protests over recent ICE raids, which were largely peaceful, turned destructive in the evening. Several stores were looted, prompting city officials to act swiftly.
As a result, key entertainment venues began canceling events. The Alamo Drafthouse shut down operations Tuesday evening and announced it will remain closed on Wednesday and Thursday nights. Screenings will also end early on those days to ensure staff and guests can leave before curfew.
The Grammy Museum canceled a planned “Cobra Kai” music showcase on Tuesday. The Music Center, including the Mark Taper Forum, also suspended performances. This includes the Tuesday and Wednesday shows of Hamlet.
Walt Disney Concert Hall’s scheduled Seoul Chamber Music concert was also canceled. Other events affected include Friday’s Fly High Fest at the Peacock Theater and Thursday’s concert by Miyavi Ishihara at the Bellwether, which has been rescheduled for February 20, 2026.
Although some venues, like Regal’s L.A. Live multiplex, still listed select shows for Wednesday, many events within the curfew zone have been canceled. The curfew area stretches from the 10 Freeway on the south, to the 110 on the west, and the 5 on the east.
Residents and workers with valid reasons to be downtown are exempt. However, Mayor Bass warned that those without cause to be in the area would be subject to arrest. On Tuesday night, LAPD reported 203 arrests for failure to disperse and 17 for curfew violations.
The restrictions are also impacting downtown businesses. Restaurants such as Camélia in the Arts District are adjusting by focusing on lunch and happy hour services and closing early.
City officials advise ticketholders to confirm event statuses with venues and expect disruptions through at least Friday.
