LOS ANGELES — Miley Cyrus gave fans an unforgettable evening at an exclusive TikTok event held Tuesday at the Chateau Marmont, where she premiered her new album Something Beautiful and delivered a surprise live performance.
The event, limited to just 100 fans, was part of a collaboration with TikTok. Invitations were extended personally by Cyrus through comments on users’ videos featuring her song “Easy Lover.” After attendees listened to the full album, Cyrus made an unexpected appearance, performing select tracks from the new release as well as fan favorites — including an impromptu rendition of her 2009 hit “The Climb.”
“This album is just the appetizer,” Cyrus teased during the event. “My next album is about to be extremely experimental, so have fun with that.”
Dressed in archival Mugler, Cyrus took the makeshift stage and opened with “More to Lose,” a sweeping ballad she previously released as a single. She explained how the project evolved from intimate, invite-only sessions at the Chateau over the past two years.
“I’ve been experimenting with this album by having these nights with my closest friends and family,” she said. “If the songs couldn’t stand on their own with just me, Michael Pollack on piano, [Jonathan] Rado on guitar, and Maxx Morando on drums — then what are we even doing? The whole album evolved in this room, and it’s reflective of my life and everything I’ve been experiencing.”
Cyrus went on to perform “Easy Lover” live for the first time, followed by her Grammy-winning hit “Flowers,” which she described as “one of the most exciting songs I’ve ever gotten to put out into the universe.” She then broke into “The Climb,” surprised to learn that her collaborator Pollack — who has worked with Beyoncé and Justin Bieber — knew how to play it on piano.
The set ended with “End of the World,” a track Cyrus revealed was written in the very room where the event was held. “This place has so many memories,” she said. “But I won’t tell you about them… you’ll think differently of me,” she joked. “All jokes aside, this album is a dedication to the journey we’ve been on together. I can’t wait to see where it takes us next.”
The night ended on a romantic note when an audience member proposed to his boyfriend just as Cyrus finished speaking. “Go get a room! Put it on my bill,” she laughed. “If you want a bed, I’ll charge it to my card.”
Miley Cyrus’ Something Beautiful will be released this Friday, with its companion visual album dropping June 6.
