Disney has officially set a release date for the long-awaited sequel to The Devil Wears Prada. The follow-up to the 2006 hit comedy is scheduled to hit theaters on May 1, 2026.
While original stars Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt were reported to be returning, no cast members have been officially confirmed. Stanley Tucci, who played fashion editor Nigel, recently told Variety, “I know they’re working on it… If it happens, I would be so happy.”
Based on Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 novel inspired by her time as an assistant to Vogue editor Anna Wintour, the original film starred Streep as formidable fashion editor Miranda Priestly, Anne Hathaway as her inexperienced assistant Andy Sachs, and Blunt as Miranda’s sharp first assistant.
The sequel is said to follow Priestly as she struggles to adapt to a digital media world while facing off against Blunt’s character, now a powerful executive at a luxury fashion conglomerate holding the advertising budget Priestly needs to stay afloat.
The release date announcement came as part of a broader reshuffle of Disney’s theatrical calendar. Among other changes, Ridley Scott’s The Dog Stars, a post-apocalyptic drama starring Jacob Elordi, Josh Brolin, and Margaret Qualley, is now set for a March 27, 2026 release.
Additionally, Disney will re-release Avatar: The Way of Water in IMAX 3D on October 3, ahead of the December 19 release of Avatar: Fire and Ash. This mirrors the 2022 re-release of the original Avatar before The Way of Water premiered.
