Chris Brown has been released from a British jail after posting a £5 million bail, following charges connected to an alleged unprovoked attack at a London nightclub in 2023, the BBC reports.
The 36-year-old singer, who did not appear in court or enter a plea at this stage, was granted release by Southwark Crown Court on Wednesday. As part of the bail agreement, Brown was required to pay a £5 million security fee — a financial guarantee that he will comply with court orders and return for future hearings. If he violates the terms of the agreement, the court may seize the funds.
Following the hearing, Brown celebrated his release on Instagram with the message: “From the cage to the stage!” His world tour is now expected to begin as scheduled on June 8 in Amsterdam.
Brown was arrested on May 15 in Manchester over the alleged assault, which reportedly occurred in February 2023 at Tape Nightclub in London. The victim, music producer Abe Diaw, claims Brown struck him multiple times with a tequila bottle and continued to punch and kick him while he was on the floor.
This is not Brown’s first encounter with legal trouble. He has a long record of violence-related arrests. Most recently, in July 2024, he was sued for $50 million in Texas by four people who claimed Brown and members of his entourage assaulted them backstage after a concert in Fort Worth. The lawsuit alleges one fan approached Brown to praise the performance, prompting a confrontation that escalated into a group attack by the singer and up to ten members of his team.
Despite mounting legal challenges, Brown’s tour is set to continue, and he has yet to publicly address the latest allegations in detail.
