Live Nation Entertainment, the world’s largest live entertainment company, has appointed Richard Grenell to its board of directors, the company announced Tuesday.
Grenell, a longtime political figure and media commentator, recently took on the role of president of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, a position to which he was appointed by former President Donald Trump. His past roles include U.S. Ambassador to Germany, Acting Director of National Intelligence, and special envoy positions for both Kosovo-Serbia negotiations and other presidential missions. He has also worked as an on-air commentator for Newsmax.
“His career experience will help support Live Nation’s mission to bring more live music to the world, while also advocating for industry reforms that protect both fans and artists,” the company stated in its announcement.
The appointment comes as Live Nation faces an ongoing investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice over alleged antitrust violations tied to its dominance in concert promotion and ticketing.
Grenell joins a high-profile board that includes executives from Liberty Media, Walmart, and Apple, as well as industry veterans like Jimmy Iovine and sports agent Rich Paul. The board is chaired by Randall Mays, former Clear Channel executive.
“We are pleased to welcome Ric to our Board,” said Mays. “His background will bring a valuable perspective as Live Nation continues to contribute to a growing live music industry around the globe.”
Grenell expressed enthusiasm about the role, saying, “The power of live performances to bring people together while boosting local economies is transformative. I’m proud to join the board and support Live Nation’s efforts to grow this positive impact of concerts around the world.”
