Taylor Swift’s re-recorded track “Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor’s Version)” was prominently featured in a new episode of The Handmaid’s Tale, fueling speculation that her Reputation re-recording is imminent.
The song opened Episode 9 of the show’s final season, with over two minutes of the suspenseful sequence soundtracked by Swift’s updated version. While not a full release, the episode included several verses and choruses, giving fans their most extended listen yet.
Excerpts from the re-recording previously appeared in the 2023 Prime Video series Wilderness, but The Handmaid’s Tale marks its most significant placement to date.
Swifties have long anticipated the release of Reputation (Taylor’s Version), which became eligible for re-recording in November 2022. Since releasing 1989 (Taylor’s Version) in October 2023, Swift has yet to announce her next project — making this the longest gap between re-recordings so far.
In a 2023 Time interview, Swift described the Reputation vault tracks as “fire,” calling the album “a goth-punk moment of female rage at being gaslit by an entire social structure.”
Fans are now speculating that an announcement could come during the American Music Awards on May 26. A subtle hint was spotted on Swift’s official merch site, where category headers spell out “AMAs.”
Originally released in 2017, Reputation featured hit singles including “Look What You Made Me Do,” “…Ready for It?,” and “Delicate.”
