Joey King is set to star alongside Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman in Practical Magic 2, the long-awaited sequel to the 1998 cult classic. According to The Hollywood Reporter, King is in final talks to join the cast and is expected to play the daughter of Bullock’s character, Sally Owens.
Bullock and Kidman will reprise their original roles as Sally and Gillian Owens, two sisters descended from a powerful family of witches. In the first film, the sisters grappled with a family curse that doomed the men they loved. While plot details for the sequel remain under wraps, sources suggest the story will draw from a later book in Alice Hoffman’s Practical Magic series.
Susanne Bier will direct the sequel, working from a screenplay by Akiva Goldsman, who co-wrote the original film. Production is scheduled to begin in London later this summer. Warner Bros. has announced a theatrical release date of September 18, 2026.
Kidman, speaking to Variety, confirmed she has read the script but doesn’t expect filming to start immediately. “We’re so excited,” she said. “We put out our spell already,” referencing a teaser released by Warner Bros. earlier in May. The short clip features Bullock and Kidman chanting:
- “Tooth of wolf and morning dew.
Something old and something new.
Let the spell begin to mix.
Sept. 18, 2026.”
Joey King, 25, rose to fame in Netflix’s The Kissing Booth franchise and earned critical acclaim with an Emmy-nominated performance in Hulu’s The Act. Her film credits include Bullet Train, Despicable Me 4, Crazy, Stupid, Love, and a role in The Dark Knight Rises.
Practical Magic 2 marks the first return to the magical world in nearly three decades, with fans eagerly awaiting a new chapter in the Owens family saga.
