The first event takes place May 31 in Northampton, Massachusetts, hosted by Erin McKeown and featuring performances by Marshall Crenshaw, Syd Straw, and Madeleine Peyroux. Other cities confirmed so far include Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh, with future events planned in Nashville, Minneapolis, and New Orleans.
Highlights from the Concert Series
Los Angeles will host two events. The first, on June 1 at McCabe’s Guitar Shop, is already sold out. Hosted by Dan Navarro, the lineup includes Margaret Cho, Tom Morello, Lisa Loeb & David Poe, and many more, supported by a house band led by Steve Postell and Leland Sklar. A second tribute will take place July 1 at Largo, with host Jim Turner and artists such as John Doe, Sara Watkins, and members of The Go-Go’s.
New York’s tribute is scheduled for July 20 at Joe’s Pub. Hosted by Marykate O’Neil, the event will feature Joan Osborne, Richard Barone, Antigone Rising, Tracy Bonham, and others. Additional concerts are set for Seattle, Evanston, Albany (CA), and Philadelphia.
Proceeds from the concerts will benefit the It Was A Good Life Foundation, which will support the ACLU and other causes important to Sobule.
Posthumous Releases
Two albums will be released on June 6 to celebrate Sobule’s legacy. Rhino Records will issue her self-titled 1995 album on red vinyl for the first time. Her own label, Pinko Records, will release the original cast recording of her musical F*ck 7th Grade.
Plans are also underway for more celebrations, including reissues of her music, unreleased tracks, and a documentary film. Additional tribute shows are expected around her birthday, January 16.
