Film Factory Entertainment has secured the worldwide rights to Evil Dress (“El Vestido”), a psychological horror film co-directed by Jacob Santana (Reversion) and Frank Ariza (El Continental).
The film stars Spanish Academy Goya-winning actress Belén Rueda (The Orphanage, The Sea Inside) in a pivotal role that delves into themes of maternal fear, generational trauma, and the supernatural.
Evil Dress follows Alicia (Rueda), a mother coping with the aftermath of a painful divorce. Seeking a fresh start, she moves with her daughter Carla into a secluded house. However, their quiet new home hides a dark and sinister past. When Carla begins to connect with the ghost of a young girl through a mysterious blue dress, the house’s chilling legacy comes to life, leading to terrifying events, including a violent incident that leaves a child in a coma.
As the investigation unfolds, Alicia finds herself trapped in a nightmare with no clear escape. Alongside Rueda, the film features rising star Vera Centenera (Tabacco Barns) and iconic Basque actress Elena Irureta, who plays a neighbor with unsettling secrets.
Directors Santana and Ariza describe the film as a “sensory and emotional journey,” focused on the difficult themes of inheritance—traumas, secrets, and fears—and the struggle to protect children when the true danger may lie within. “It’s a deeply intimate mother-daughter story shaped by terror,” they explain.
The film is influenced by modern horror classics such as The Others, It Follows, Longlegs, and Hereditary, with its eerie atmosphere enhanced by cinematographer Christos Voudouris (Before Midnight, Alps), whose expressionist style intensifies the film’s mood.
Film Factory’s director Vicente Canales expressed strong optimism for the project, stating, “We’re thrilled to join Frank and Jacob on this new film. We believe Evil Dress has strong international potential and will captivate audiences worldwide.”
Production is underway, with the first promotional footage set to premiere at the upcoming Marché du Film.
