Is Jennifer’s Body ready for a comeback?
The cult horror film starring Megan Fox, Amanda Seyfried, and Adam Brody is approaching its 20th anniversary. Over the years, talk of a sequel has slowly gained momentum. Seyfried and Brody, both Emmy contenders this year, recently reunited for an “Actors on Actors” interview with Variety, where they shared exciting updates on the follow-up.
“We’re making another one,” Seyfried confirmed confidently during the conversation.
Brody asked, “I heard, what can you tell me?”
In the original 2009 film, Seyfried played Anita “Needy” Lesnicki, the shy best friend of Fox’s character, Jennifer. Brody played Nikolai, the lead singer of the band Low Shoulder. When Jennifer goes to see the band perform, Brody’s character reveals a sinister plan to sacrifice her for the band’s success. Things go wrong, turning Jennifer into a flesh-eating demon.
Seyfried revealed the sequel is being led by producer Mason Novick, who also produced the original alongside Jason Reitman and Daniel Dubiecki. Without spoiling the movie for new viewers, it’s safe to say Brody and Fox’s characters die by the film’s end.
“Are you going to do it?” Seyfried asked Brody about the sequel. He said he hadn’t been contacted yet and noted that his character had died.
“But Megan died too, and I’m not doing it without her,” Seyfried replied. She pitched Brody for the role of the devil this time around. She also mentioned that original director Karyn Kusama might return and that they have been trying to collaborate again since the first film.
When it was released, Jennifer’s Body was considered a flop, earning $31 million worldwide on a $16 million budget. Expectations were high for Fox, who had recently gained fame with Transformers, and for screenwriter Diablo Cody, fresh off an Oscar win for Juno.
However, the film’s popularity grew over time thanks to streaming platforms and social media, including TikTok. This helped Jennifer’s Body build a strong fan base across generations. The movie was recently referenced in Benito Skinner’s comedy Overcompensating.
Brody asked Seyfried what the sequel’s title should be.
“Needy’s Body,” she answered.
