DC Studios head James Gunn has officially confirmed the runtime for his upcoming superhero film, Superman, putting rumors to rest and clarifying creative control over the project.
Responding to a fan question on Instagram Threads, Gunn confirmed that the film’s total runtime is two hours and nine minutes, including credits and any post-credit scenes.
“Inclusive of credits/post credits, the runtime is 2 hours 9 minutes,” Gunn wrote.
He also addressed speculation that Warner Bros. had requested edits to shorten the movie. Gunn dismissed the claim, stating, “Zero truth to that. And they couldn’t even if that’s something that they wanted to [do]. It’s a DC Studios film.”
The film, formerly titled Superman: Legacy, marks Gunn’s first major release as co-head of DC Studios. He serves as both writer and director.
David Corenswet stars as Clark Kent/Superman, with Rachel Brosnahan playing Lois Lane. Nicholas Hoult takes on the role of the film’s main antagonist, Lex Luthor. The cast also includes Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific.
Superman is the first standalone Superman film since Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel in 2013, which launched the previous DC Extended Universe and grossed $670 million worldwide. That era wrapped with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom in December 2023.
The new Superman film opens in theaters on July 11.
