Hollywood, June 5 — Ana de Armas expressed her gratitude toward Tom Cruise for his support of her upcoming film Ballerina, calling it “unbelievable” that he publicly endorsed the project.
Speaking at the Ballerina premiere Tuesday night at the TCL Chinese Theatre, de Armas emphasized that Cruise’s support extends beyond her film alone.
“You know what, he supports every movie,” she told Variety. “He really wants the industry and cinema to do well and wants people going to the theaters. We’re working together, so he got to see Ballerina, and he actually really liked it. He loved the John Wick movies.”
De Armas called Cruise’s endorsement “very special” and noted the importance of actors supporting one another. “It’s really special in general to have other actors and people supporting each other. We can do well all together,” she added.
While promoting Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, Cruise spoke highly of the John Wick universe and the team behind Ballerina, including de Armas and Keanu Reeves.
“John Wick—I love that franchise and what those guys do,” Cruise said in an interview with the Associated Press. “I know what it takes to create these kinds of stories. And now they have Ballerina coming out with Ana, that’s outstanding.”
Ballerina, a spinoff set between the third and fourth John Wick films, follows de Armas as an assassin trained in the Ruska Roma tradition who seeks revenge for her father’s death.
The actress also shared how physically demanding the role was. “Everything hurt,” she said. “My hands, my nails were broken, bruises everywhere, my neck. It was a lot of fun actually.”
Ballerina opens in theaters on June 6.
