Chinese animated blockbuster Ne Zha 2 is set for a theatrical release across Russia on May 29, thanks to a new distribution deal between All Rights Entertainment and Arna Media.
The agreement was finalized by Aurélien Piris, head of sales for Europe and Africa at All Rights Entertainment, a company based in Paris, Hong Kong, and Los Angeles.
Directed by Yang Yu, Ne Zha 2 has achieved massive global success, grossing over $2.13 billion worldwide. This makes it the fifth highest-grossing film of all time and the highest-grossing animated film in history. It is also the first non-American film to surpass the $2 billion mark. The movie has performed strongly in Western markets, earning more than $20 million in the U.S. and over $1.5 million in its opening weekend in the U.K.
The fantasy film, based on Chinese mythology, follows the journey of Ne Zha, a rebellious spirit born of fire and fate, as he battles the powerful Dragon King. After being struck by divine lightning during the fight, Ne Zha and his companion are sent to the spirit realm. The Sacred Lotus offers their only chance to return to the living world.
Arna Media, a prominent Russian distributor, has previously handled several successful titles, including Anora, which won the Cannes Palme d’Or, and Nicolas Cage’s surprise hit Longlegs.
Nadezda Motina, president and founder of Arna Media, expressed excitement over the release: “It is a true honor for us to bring this wonderful animated film to audiences across the CIS. We will launch an extensive marketing campaign across all key platforms to support the release. I am confident that Ne Zha 2 will win the hearts of people.”
