Sony Pictures Television (SPT) has secured international distribution rights for The Miniature Wife, a new comedy series starring Elizabeth Banks and Emmy-winner Matthew Macfadyen. The announcement comes ahead of SPT’s LA Screenings event on Sunday.
The relationship comedy will air on Peacock in the U.S. and is based on Manuel Gonzalez’s short story about a man who accidentally shrinks his wife. The series follows a married couple whose power dynamics shift after a technological mishap, sparking a battle for control in their relationship.
Produced by Media Res, known for The Morning Show and Pachinko, The Miniature Wife is a one-hour series blending sharp humor with a unique premise.
“We are thrilled to work with the talented team at Media Res and bring The Miniature Wife to audiences worldwide,” said Mike Wald, Co-President of Distribution & Networks at SPT. “This is must-have content. Elizabeth Banks and Matthew Macfadyen are a perfect pairing, and the humor is both clever and fun.”
Joining Banks and Macfadyen in the main cast are Zoe Lister-Jones (Beau is Afraid), Sofia Rosinsky (Paper Girls), O-T Fagbenle (The Handmaid’s Tale), and Sian Clifford (Fleabag).
Recurring roles include The Daily Show co-host Ronny Chieng (Crazy Rich Asians), Aasif Mandvi (Evil), Rong Fu (Star Trek: Strange New Worlds), and Tricia Black (Pretty Hard Cases).
The series is created by Jennifer Ames and Steve Turner (Boardwalk Empire, Goliath), who also serve as showrunners and executive producers. Greg Mottola directs the first two episodes and joins as an executive producer alongside Banks, Macfadyen, Michael Aguilar (I’m Dying Up Here), Suzanne Heathcote (Killing Eve), and Media Res’s Michael Ellenberg and Lindsey Springer.
The Miniature Wife will be one of the highlights at SPT’s slate presentation, which also features Outlander: Blood of My Blood, Lord of the Flies, American Hostage, Playing Gracie, The Lady, and Titanic Sinks Tonight.
