Thunderbolts continues to perform solidly at the box office, bringing in $34 million overseas and $67.1 million globally during its second weekend. The film has outperformed recent Marvel Cinematic Universe releases like Captain America: Brave New World, The Marvels, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, all of which saw steep declines after their initial outings. Despite this, Thunderbolts still has a $180 million production budget and at least $100 million in marketing costs. To break even, it will need sustained success at the box office.
Unlike its MCU counterparts, Thunderbolts has garnered better reviews and word-of-mouth, which analysts believe will help its longevity. The movie won’t face major competition until Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning debuts over Memorial Day weekend. So far, Thunderbolts has grossed $143 million internationally and $128.5 million domestically, bringing its total to $272.2 million. Top markets include the UK ($15.5 million), China ($13.8 million), and Mexico ($11.2 million).
In other box office news, A Minecraft Movie has crossed the $900 million mark, making it the highest-grossing Hollywood film of the year. The Warner Bros. adaptation, starring Jack Black and Jason Momoa, has earned $500.6 million internationally and $909.6 million globally.
Meanwhile, Sinners, an R-rated horror film, has accumulated $283.3 million worldwide after four weekends. While it hasn’t performed as strongly in international markets, where it has earned $68.9 million, it has become a North American hit, with $214.4 million in domestic sales.
