Indian star Yash has officially begun filming the ambitious mythological saga Ramayana, bringing international action talent into the fold. The actor-producer has partnered with renowned stunt director Guy Norris, best known for Mad Max: Fury Road, Furiosa, and The Suicide Squad, to choreograph large-scale action sequences for the project.
The two-part film is being directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the filmmaker behind Dangal, the highest-grossing Indian film of all time. Ramayana is backed by Yash’s Monster Mind Creations and Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios. Malhotra also serves as global CEO of the Oscar-winning visual effects firm DNEG, which has contributed to Hollywood blockbusters like Dune and Tenet.
Norris is currently in India collaborating with Yash to design action set pieces tailored for the epic scale of Ramayana. The film aims to redefine Indian cinematic spectacle through a combination of high-caliber stunts and cutting-edge visual effects.
Yash, best known for the K.G.F. franchise, is undergoing intense physical preparation to portray the iconic villain Ravana. He is committed to a 60–70 day shoot for the first installment. The ensemble cast also includes Ranbir Kapoor.
Ramayana tells the story of Prince Rama’s 14-year exile and the battle to rescue his wife Sita after her abduction by the demon king Ravana. The tale has been adapted many times, including the beloved 1987 TV series Ramayan, the 1993 anime Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama, and most recently, 2023’s Adipurush.
The first part of Ramayana is scheduled for release during Diwali 2026, with Part 2 following a year later in Diwali 2027.
