Disney’s Lilo & Stitch soared to the top of the U.K. and Ireland box office in its opening weekend, earning £9.5 million ($12.9 million), according to Comscore.
Close behind, Paramount’s Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning launched with $11.5 million, placing second. Both films benefited from a three-day holiday weekend and the start of the May half-term school break.
In third, Warner Bros.’ horror reboot Final Destination: Bloodlines earned $2.2 million in its second weekend, pushing its total to $9.3 million. Universal’s spy thriller The Phoenician Scheme debuted in fourth with $1 million.
Disney’s Thunderbolts* claimed fifth place with $781,138, bringing its total to $20.1 million. Warner Bros.’ Sinners followed in sixth, grossing $461,938 for a cumulative $20.5 million.
Seventh place went to Altitude’s Ocean With David Attenborough, which brought in $127,689. In eighth, Bluey At The Cinema: Let’s Play Chef Collection, from Vue Lumière, added $63,630 to its total of nearly $697,000 over four weeks.
Indian Malayalam-language film Narivetta, released by Berkshire Dreamhouse, debuted in tenth place with $58,826.
