British prosecutors have filed criminal charges against Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan, marking the first formal action against the controversial influencers in the United Kingdom.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) confirmed on Tuesday that it had authorized 21 charges, including rape, actual bodily harm, and human trafficking. The charges are based on evidence gathered by Bedfordshire Police. According to BBC News, the charges come ahead of an extradition warrant issued in 2024, seeking the brothers’ return from Romania, where they are currently involved in separate legal proceedings.
Andrew Tate, a former kickboxer turned social media personality, faces 10 charges involving three alleged victims. These include rape, human trafficking, causing actual bodily harm, and controlling prostitution for profit. His brother, Tristan Tate, faces 11 charges involving one alleged victim, including rape and human trafficking.
Both men, who hold dual U.K. and U.S. citizenship, have denied wrongdoing in the Romanian cases. The CPS said that U.K. proceedings cannot advance until the Romanian investigations are concluded.
The latest charges increase legal pressure on the Tate brothers, whose online presence and controversial views on masculinity and wealth have drawn widespread criticism.
Andrew Tate first gained public attention in 2016 after appearing on the U.K. reality show Big Brother. He was removed from the show following the release of a video showing him hitting a woman with a belt. Both Tate and the woman claimed the encounter was consensual.
Since then, Tate has built a massive online following, promoting his views through videos and social media. He was banned from Twitter (now X) in 2017 due to offensive posts but was reinstated after Elon Musk acquired the platform.
