Lindsay Lohan says she’s ready to explore new directions in her acting career after a successful run of Netflix romantic comedies. In a new interview with Elle, the actress reflected on her recent projects and hinted that her time making holiday-themed films for the streaming giant may be coming to an end.
Over the past three years, Lohan has starred in three Netflix hits: Falling for Christmas (2022), Irish Wish (2024), and Our Little Secret (2024). All three debuted at No. 1 on Netflix’s film chart. Her latest, Our Little Secret, scored 32.4 million views in its first weekend—her biggest streaming debut yet.
Despite that success, Lohan said she’s thinking about moving beyond Netflix originals. “I always want to make movies like that—things that make people happy and bring people together,” she told Elle. “But with Netflix, I was like, ‘Okay, now we need to be thinking about other stuff.’ I can’t do movies like these forever.”
Next, Lohan returns to theaters with Freakier Friday, the sequel to Disney’s 2003 comedy Freaky Friday. She reunites with co-star Jamie Lee Curtis in the follow-up, which hits cinemas on August 8.
Describing the film, Lohan said, “It’s easygoing. It felt fresh and fun to make. I want to give people that feel-good experience again.” She added, “When I saw the second cut, I wanted to get up and dance. I thought, ‘This is cool. I like this song. I want people to feel that.’”
Although she’s moving on from Netflix rom-coms, Lohan isn’t leaving streaming behind. She is set to star in and executive produce Count My Lies, a Hulu series based on the novel of the same name. If it goes to series, it will be her first lead TV role.
