The 76-year-old music legend recently revealed he has been diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), a condition marked by an abnormal buildup of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain. The announcement, shared on May 23 via Instagram, also confirmed the cancellation of all his upcoming concerts.
Alexis Speaks Out
On Monday, May 26, Alexis, 43, released a statement on Billy’s official Instagram, alongside a photo of the couple with their daughters, Della, 9, and Remy, 7.
“Thank you for the outpouring of love and support. We are so grateful for the wonderful care and swift diagnosis we received,” she wrote.
“Bill is beloved by so many, and to us, he is a father and husband who is at the center of our world. We are hopeful for his recovery and look forward to seeing you all in the future.”
Diagnosis and Treatment
Billy’s condition has reportedly worsened due to recent concert performances, affecting his hearing, vision, and balance. Doctors have prescribed a specialized physical therapy regimen, and he’s been advised to refrain from performing during the recovery period.
His team shared that Billy is “thankful for the excellent care he is receiving and is fully committed to prioritizing his health.”
In his own words to fans, he said, “I’m sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience, and thank you for understanding.”
Family Support
Billy’s daughter Alexa Ray Joel, 39, whom he shares with ex-wife Christie Brinkley, posted a heartfelt tribute following the announcement. She shared a black-and-white illustration of a father and daughter, captioned:
“We love you and we got you, Pop!”
“The genuine care, empathy, and concern from everyone means so much to him … it means a lot to me, too.”
She concluded her message with lyrics from “Lullabye (Goodnight, My Angel)” — a song Billy wrote for her on his 1993 album River of Dreams.
Christie Brinkley, 71, also sent well wishes, writing on Instagram: “The whole Brinkley gang is sending you lots of love and good wishes for a full and speedy recovery.”
Previous Health Scare
This diagnosis follows a concert fall in February at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut. One month later, Billy postponed all shows through June due to a medical condition requiring physical therapy under medical supervision.
