Dead & Company will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Grateful Dead with three shows at San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park on August 1-3, 2024. The news was revealed by San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie in a video posted on X on Monday, though the band has yet to make an official statement.
While details are still forthcoming, Lurie confirmed the performances, saying, “Dead & Co., three shows, August 1, 2, and 3, right here in the city that is the home of the Grateful Dead. What better way to celebrate?”
The concerts still require approval from the Recreation and Park Commission, which will meet Thursday. The shows are expected to attract up to 60,000 fans daily.
This will mark Dead & Company’s first appearance in San Francisco since their farewell tour in 2023, though some fans have questioned the group’s continued performances. The band, which includes Grateful Dead members Bob Weir and Mickey Hart, plus John Mayer and others, has not declared a final concert but has scaled back touring.
The shows will coincide with both the Grateful Dead’s 60th anniversary and Dead & Company’s 10th anniversary. The original Grateful Dead played at Golden Gate Park at least 14 times, with their final performance there in 1991.
