Scheduled for theatrical release on May 28, 2027, Starfighter is set five years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker, introducing an entirely new storyline and characters, distinct from the Skywalker Saga . The script is penned by Jonathan Tropper, known for This Is Where I Leave You .
Gosling, a lifelong Star Wars fan, expressed his excitement about the project, praising the script’s originality and emotional depth . Levy emphasized that Lucasfilm encouraged him to infuse the film with his unique style, aiming for a tone that reflects his personal taste and filmmaking approach .
Production is slated to commence in fall 2025, with the film aiming to revitalize the Star Wars franchise by exploring new narratives and characters within the galaxy far, far away.
