LOS ANGELES – June 6, 2025 — The first trailer for Kiss of the Spider Woman has arrived, giving audiences a glimpse of Jennifer Lopez in her latest musical role. Directed by Bill Condon (Dreamgirls), the film adapts the Tony Award-winning stage musical by Terrence McNally, John Kander, and Fred Ebb.
Lopez stars as Ingrid Luna, a glamorous actress whose most iconic film role is the Spider Woman — a deadly enchantress who kills with a kiss. Set during Argentina’s Dirty War in 1981, the story centers on Luis (played by newcomer Tonatiuh), a gay hairdresser imprisoned for his sexuality. Luis escapes the grim reality of prison by imagining scenes from Ingrid’s films. His world changes when a political prisoner, Valentin (Diego Luna), is assigned to his cell. Through shared dreams of cinema and music, the two form an emotional connection.
The trailer features Lopez performing the well-known number “Where You Are,” offering a preview of the film’s 13 musical performances. Lopez, Tonatiuh, and Luna all lend their voices to the soundtrack.
Condon also wrote the screenplay and produced the film alongside Artists Equity, Barry Josephson, Tom Kirdahy, and Greg Yolen.
Kiss of the Spider Woman premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January. In its review, Variety praised Lopez for delivering a “smoldering” performance that could attract a wide audience, even those unfamiliar with musicals. Critic Peter Debruge also highlighted Tonatiuh as a standout, noting the actor’s nuanced portrayal brings unexpected depth to his role.
The film will be released in theaters on October 10 by Lionsgate.
