Disney’s live-action adaptation of Snow White will make its streaming debut on Disney+ on June 11, giving families a chance to enjoy the film from home.
Starring Rachel Zegler (West Side Story) in the title role, the film reimagines Disney’s 1937 animated classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The story follows a young princess who flees her wicked stepmother — played by Gal Gadot — and finds refuge with a group of seven dwarfs in a forest.
Directed by Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer, The Amazing Spider-Man) and written by Erin Cressida Wilson (The Girl on the Train), the film is part of Disney’s ongoing series of live-action remakes. Despite strong brand recognition, Snow White opened to a modest $43 million at the domestic box office, falling short of expectations.
The film received mixed reviews and drew attention for several controversies leading up to its release. However, Variety’s chief critic Owen Gleiberman noted that the film was “lighter, more frolicsome, less lead-footed” than earlier Disney live-action efforts such as Alice in Wonderland and Beauty and the Beast.
Snow White features 11 musical numbers, including original songs like “Good Things Grow” and “A Hand Meets a Hand” composed by La La Land duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. Fans of the original film will also recognize classics such as “Whistle While You Work” and “Heigh-Ho.”
The film will be available to stream for Disney+ subscribers, with plans starting at $9.99 per month.
