Sydney Sweeney has confirmed her breakup with longtime partner and business collaborator Jonathan Davino, putting to rest months of speculation about their relationship.
In an interview published May 31 by The Sunday Times, the 27-year-old actress acknowledged that she is no longer engaged to Davino, with whom she co-founded a production company. When asked directly whether she is currently single, Sweeney replied, “Yes,” but did not elaborate further.
“I’m learning a lot about myself, spending more time with my friends. And I’m loving it,” she told the newspaper.
Sweeney and Davino had been together for nearly seven years, but reports of a split began circulating earlier this year. By late March, outlets including People, TMZ, and Us Weekly reported the couple had ended their relationship. Sweeney’s representatives declined to comment at the time.
The Euphoria star also discussed the success of her 2023 romantic comedy Anyone But You, which she co-produced with Davino. The film, which co-starred Glen Powell, became a surprise box office hit and gained attention for the stars’ off-screen chemistry.
“Glenn and I adore each other, so I think we were so happy for the reception of the film,” Sweeney said, adding that the two remain close. She also attended Powell’s sister’s wedding in Texas earlier this year.
“When you spend so much time with someone, you become close and you talk to each other about anything,” she said. “So work, life, family, friends — he’s just there for me. I’m there for him.”
In an April interview with The New York Times, Powell addressed rumors of a romantic relationship between the two, calling it a “showmance.”
“The two things that you have to sell a rom-com are fun and chemistry,” he said. “Sydney and I have a ton of fun together, and we have a ton of effortless chemistry. That’s people wanting what’s on the screen off the screen, and sometimes you just have to lean into it — and it worked wonderfully.”
He added, “Sydney is very smart.”
Sweeney also reflected on returning to the set of Euphoria for its upcoming season, saying, “Being back is crazy. I love Cassie so much. She’s insane.”
The actress shared her concerns about being typecast due to her role as Cassie, a character known for her intense and sexualized portrayal.
“I see it all the time where they don’t think I am right for [a role] because they watched Cassie in Euphoria,” she said. “Especially because Cassie was such a sexualized character — that puts a wall up for people.”
In addition to acting, Sweeney is also building a reputation as a producer. But she said gaining respect in that role has been a challenge.
“I have to prove myself as a young woman, as an actor, as a businessperson — all of it,” she said.
Sweeney’s latest film, Echo Valley, is currently streaming on Apple TV+.
