Leslie Grace, known for her musical success and breakout role in In the Heights, is set to star in Propel, a survival thriller directed by Felipe Vargas. The film, described as “‘Gravity’ meets ‘127 Hours’ underwater,” follows Grace’s character, Kate Acosta, a commercial diver who is swallowed by a giant sperm whale during a routine dive. Trapped inside the whale, Kate fights for survival, facing both the monsters of the deep and her inner demons.
Altitude has joined the project for international sales and will present the film to buyers at Cannes next week. Written by Jeremy Marwick and inspired by real events, Propel is described as a pulse-pounding thriller exploring themes of family, resilience, and rebirth.
The film is produced by Javier Chapa and Phillip Braun for Mucho Mas Media, alongside Derrick Eppich for Empirical Evidence. Production is set to begin later this year.
Alongside Propel, Altitude’s Cannes slate includes several other exciting titles, such as Good Boy, Sweetness, Arachnid, Turbulence, Faithfull, Obey, and more.
