David Byrne will release his first album since American Utopia on September 5. Titled Who Is the Sky?, the 12-track album arrives via Matador Records and was produced by Grammy-winner Kid Harpoon, with arrangements by the Ghost Train Orchestra. Guests include St. Vincent, Paramore’s Hayley Williams, and Tom Skinner (The Smile).
The lead single, “Everybody Laughs,” now has an official video directed by multimedia artist Gabriel Barcia-Colombo. Byrne says the track reflects shared human experiences, blending melancholy themes with an uplifting groove. Kid Harpoon adds that Byrne’s perspective captures life’s absurdity in a deeply relatable way.
Byrne will support the album with a world tour starting in North America this September. The live show features a 13-person band — many from American Utopia — all performing mobile throughout the set. Tour legs in Australia, New Zealand, Europe, and the UK follow in early 2026.
