SNL Film has announced the cast and production team for its upcoming soccer comedy, Olde Boys. The film is written, directed, and produced by Nick Wilkinson, with veteran producer Lisa G. Black also onboard. Screenbound will handle global sales.
Filming is scheduled to begin this September in both the U.K. and the U.S.
Olde Boys follows Mike Giordano, a small-town lawyer and weekend soccer player. His over-50s team is falling apart, but things take a turn when he signs them up for the World Masters tournament in England—with help from his teenage daughter and coach, Frankie.
Tuc Watkins (Desperate Housewives, Uncoupled) leads the cast as Mike Giordano, the team’s self-proclaimed captain and lovable schemer. Guy Nardulli plays Nico Tavakoli, a risk-taking prankster and creative playmaker. Jay Huguley (12 Years a Slave) appears as Rob Mason, the tough team captain hiding personal struggles.
Ray Fearon (Beauty and the Beast, Harry Potter) portrays Travis Richards, the team’s star player with a troubled past. Cailey Fleming (The Walking Dead, IF) is in talks to play Frankie Giordano, the film’s young tactical mind and emotional core. Shanley Caswell (The Conjuring) is also in discussions to join the cast, while August Diehl (Inglourious Basterds) is already attached for a key role.
The film is being described as a feel-good comedy with international appeal, drawing comparisons to titles like Ted Lasso, The Full Monty, and Fishermen’s Friends.
“Olde Boys is a story I’ve lived and loved — about friendship, reinvention, and the beauty of the game,” said Wilkinson. “It’s about feeling young at heart, even when your body says otherwise.”
Wilkinson’s debut feature, Death on the Brandywine, will screen at the Cannes Market on May 19. The political satire stars Kate Burton, Tuc Watkins, Guy Nardulli, and Satomi Hofmann. It was also written, directed, and produced by Wilkinson and Black.
Lisa G. Black, known for producing films such as The BirdCatcher, Miles, HEVN, and Almost Paris, brings decades of experience to the project. She currently serves as co-chair of the Producers Guild of America – Capital Region.
Olde Boys is expected to premiere in 2026 to coincide with the FIFA World Cup.
