Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for “Nobody 2,” the action-packed sequel to the 2021 thriller starring Bob Odenkirk.
Odenkirk returns as Hutch Mansell, an ordinary suburban father with a deadly past. In the first film, Hutch’s hidden skills as a former assassin were revealed after a violent home invasion. Now, in the sequel, he is back in action, taking down thugs with unconventional weapons — including a Whack-A-Mole mallet and a boat anchor — in intense, John Wick-style fight scenes.
Connie Nielsen reprises her role as Hutch’s wife, Becca Mansell. The cast also includes Sharon Stone, Christopher Lloyd, RZA, and Colin Hanks.
“Nobody 2” is directed by Timo Tjahjanto, best known for Indonesian action films like “The Night Comes for Us” and “May the Devil Take You.” The screenplay was written by Derek Kolstad (creator of John Wick), along with Bob Odenkirk, Aaron Rabin, and Umair Aleem.
The sequel is produced by Odenkirk Provissiero Entertainment, with Odenkirk and Marc Provissiero leading production. Additional producers include Braden Aftergood (Eighty Two Films) and Kelly McCormick and David Leitch through their first-look deal with Universal and 87North.
The first “Nobody” film was directed by Ilya Naishuller and released in March 2021. It earned $57 million worldwide and was praised for its blend of action and humor.
In his original review, Variety critic Owen Gleiberman described “Nobody” as a story of a man reconnecting with his violent past beneath an ordinary life. “When the ultraviolence erupts, the movie pops,” Gleiberman wrote, though he noted it should not be seen as anything more than a “cardboard fable.”
Odenkirk has previously said the film was personal to him. Speaking to Variety in 2021, he revealed that his own experience with home break-ins inspired his role. “I recommend to any father who has suffered through a home break-in and felt like they could have done more to make an action film. It really was cathartic,” Odenkirk said.
“Nobody 2” does not yet have an official release date.
