On Wednesday, Cassie took the witness stand in Combs’ ongoing trial in New York. She described how the music mogul allegedly reacted with anger and violence when he learned she had been dating Kid Cudi, whose real name is Scott Mescudi.
Cassie testified that she and Cudi started dating briefly in 2011. They first became friends through work before their relationship turned romantic. At the time, Cassie said her relationship with Combs was strained.
According to Cassie, Combs discovered their relationship during a private party, which she described as a “freak-off,” involving several days of sexual activity. She said Combs went through her phone and found emails revealing her connection with Cudi.
After reading the emails, Combs allegedly became enraged. Cassie recalled that he grabbed a wine corkscrew, placed it between his fingers, and lunged at her. She said his “eyes blacked out” and he was “super angry.” Though he did not physically hurt her then, Cassie fled the hotel in fear and contacted Cudi using a burner phone to hide their relationship.
Cudi picked her up from the street and took her to his home. Later that evening, Cassie returned to Combs’ residence, hoping to calm the situation. However, she said Combs was still furious. She testified that he threatened to harm both her and Cudi, saying, “he was going to hurt Scott and me.”
Cassie further alleged that Combs threatened to release explicit videos of her, including footage from the “freak-off.” When she tried to leave his home, she said Combs kicked her in the back, causing her to fall and bruise her lower back.
On December 23, 2011, Cassie sent an email to her mother, copying one of Combs’ employees. In the message, she wrote that Combs threatened to release two sex tapes and planned to make one public on Christmas Day. While visiting her family in Connecticut for the holidays, her mother took photos of her bruises. These images were shown in court.
In November 2023, Cassie filed a lawsuit against Combs, which first brought these allegations to light. She included the corkscrew incident and detailed other threats. One of the most serious claims involved Combs allegedly saying in February 2012 that he would “blow up Kid Cudi’s car.” Soon after, Cudi’s vehicle exploded in his driveway. Cudi’s representatives confirmed this event to The New York Times.
Cassie is expected to continue her testimony as Combs faces charges of sex trafficking and racketeering. If convicted, he could receive a life sentence.
