Lili Taylor has been cast as Mags in Lionsgate’s “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping”. The film is based on the bestselling book by Suzanne Collins.
Taylor joins a star-studded cast, including Joseph Zada as Haymitch Abernathy, Whitney Peak as Lenore Dove Baird, Mckenna Grace as Maysilee Donner, Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee, Maya Hawke as Wiress, and Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Beetee.
Mags, originally portrayed by Lynn Cohen in “Catching Fire,” is a former Hunger Games champion who later becomes a mentor for District 12.
Lili Taylor is a three-time Emmy nominee. She will soon appear in Marvel’s “Daredevil: Born Again” season two and Netflix’s “Fear Street: Prom Queen.” Taylor also stars in Amazon’s mystery drama “Outer Range.” This spring, she published her debut book, “Turning to Birds,” a personal reflection on birding and finding peace in nature.
“The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping” will hit theaters on November 20, 2026. Francis Lawrence will direct, with a screenplay adaptation by Billy Ray. Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson of Color Force will produce. Cameron MacConomy will serve as executive producer.
The story revisits Panem 24 years before the original Hunger Games events. It begins on the morning of the reaping for the Fiftieth Hunger Games, known as the Second Quarter Quell.
The novel was released on March 18 and sold 1.5 million copies in its first week across the U.S., U.K., Ireland, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. In the U.S. alone, 1.2 million copies were sold, doubling the first-week sales of “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” and tripling the sales of “Mockingjay.”
The Hunger Games film series has earned over $3.3 billion at the global box office.
Meredith Wieck and Scott O’Brien are overseeing the project for Lionsgate. Robert Melnik negotiated the deal for the studio.
Taylor is represented by Independent Artist Group and Untitled Entertainment. The casting news was first reported by Deadline.
