The eagerly anticipated 2023 MTV Video Music Awards are just around the corner, set to take place in New Jersey or on your television screen. The event promises a gathering of some of the music industry’s most prominent figures, offering headline-making performances, fan-selected awards, and, if history serves as any indication, a touch of drama.

Leading the nominations this year is Taylor Swift, with an impressive eight nods. Not far behind is SZA, boasting six nominations, while Doja Cat, Kim Petras, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, Olivia Rodrigo, and Sam Smith all share five nominations each. The roster also features 35 first-time VMA nominees, including Kim Petras, Ice Spice, Reneé Rapp, and Fletcher. Notably, K-pop artists have garnered increased recognition, with nods for BTS Jungkook, Tomorrow X Together, Fifty Fifty, NewJeans, Seventeen, and Blackpink.

The 2023 show is set to be graced by performances from Shakira, who will be honored with the MTV Video Vanguard Award, and Sean “Diddy” Combs, receiving the 2023 Global Icon Award. Both artists will make their return to the MTV VMA stage after a decade-long absence. Nicki Minaj will also make a comeback as the host of the ceremony.
