Al Pacino met with Pope Leo XIV on Monday at the Vatican, marking the first known official audience between the first American pope and a movie star.
Andrea Iervolino, producer of the film Maserati: The Brothers, announced the meeting in a statement. He said the pope received a private delegation from the film, which included Oscar-winning actor Al Pacino and Iervolino himself.
“The meeting was a moment of profound spiritual and cultural inspiration,” Iervolino said. “It focused on shared values central to both the Catholic Church and the film: family unity, love, compassion, and contributing to the common good.”
The statement added that Pope Leo XIV has frequently highlighted these values in his recent messages. These themes resonate strongly with the story of the Maserati brothers, a family known not only for innovation and excellence but also for mutual respect, solidarity, and a shared vision.
According to Italian media, Pacino arrived in Rome on Sunday by private jet from New York.
Earlier this year, it was announced that Pacino joined the cast of Maserati: The Brothers, directed by Bobby Moresco. Pacino will portray businessman Vincenzo Vaccaro, who supported the Maserati family and invested in their early ventures. The film is currently being shot in Italy.
Other well-known actors cast in Maserati include Anthony Hopkins, Andy Garcia, Jessica Alba, Michele Morrone, and Salvatore Esposito. However, they did not attend the papal audience.
