Charli XCX headlined London’s Lido Festival on Saturday night, where she declared that “Brat” summer is no longer just a season, but a “forever thing.” The show came a little over a year after the release of Brat, the album that made a major impact on the music world.
At the end of her hour-long set, Charli shared a message on the stage’s screen, flashing with lights. It read: “‘Brat’ summer is over. But actually… I don’t think it is. So tell me the truth: Will you hate me if I stick around? Because honestly I don’t know who I am if it’s over. And so… I’ve decided I want this to last forever. It wasn’t just a summer thing… it’s a forever thing. Please don’t let it be over.”
The night also featured the first live performance of the “Rewind” remix. Charli brought out Swedish rapper Bladee for the debut. However, the performance started with a technical error. The original version of “Rewind” played at first, with Charli singing the lyrics: “I used to never feel embarrassed / Feel embarrassed when I called up the paparazzi.” She paused and said, “Wait, hold on. We gotta stop, we gotta stop. Are we doing the wrong version?” Charli briefly left the stage as the crowd murmured in confusion. Bladee then stepped forward and greeted fans with, “What’s up, London? Let’s try again.” After a hug between the two, the remix version started. “My bad!” Charli added.
Bladee had performed earlier that evening on the festival’s second stage. His set was part of Charli’s curated “Partygirl” lineup. Other acts on the lineup included the Dare, who brought out Pink Pantheress for their song “Stateside”; French DJ Gesaffelstein, who appeared covered in dark silver body paint; The Japanese House; 070 Shake; A.G. Cook; Magdalena Bay; and Kelly Lee Owens.
Charli’s set also featured a fun moment with Chicken Shop Date host Amelia Dimoldenberg. She was chosen as the night’s “Apple” girl and performed the viral TikTok dance to loud cheers from fans. Actors Paul Mescal and Harris Dickinson were spotted together in the crowd. They will play Paul McCartney and John Lennon in upcoming Beatles biopics. Many in the audience had hoped they would join in the “Apple” dance. Dickinson was there to support his girlfriend, Rose Gray, who performed on the festival’s club stage.
Charli XCX will continue her Brat festival tour with a set at Glastonbury later this month.
