Ronnie Winter, lead singer of the alternative rock band Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, has called on supporters of former U.S. President Donald Trump to stop attending the band’s concerts. In a recent Instagram video, Winter said he believes Trump voters will not appreciate the themes of acceptance and the teachings of Jesus that are part of their shows.
“If you voted for Donald Trump, do not come to my shows — forever,” Winter said at the end of the video. “Don’t come because you’ll hear woke ideas. You’ll hear the actual words of Jesus. You’ll see acceptance of people from all walks of life and all races. You’ll see harmony. That’s not what you’re about. Don’t come. Refunds are available. Forever, don’t come. Goodbye.”
Winter made the video after facing criticism for his support of progressive views during the 2020 election. He said he has no plans to change his stance.
“I thought I was clear about this in 2020,” he said. “If you look at my Instagram, I never removed any posts from the Stay Woke campaign. The thing about being woke is: once you’re awake, you can’t go back to sleep. Everything woke people said would happen has happened. You’ve only proven them right.”
Winter also addressed Christian Trump supporters directly. “Hi, I’m Ronnie Winter. I sing for the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, and I actually follow what Jesus says. If you’re a Christian and you voted for Donald Trump, shame on you. I don’t want you at my shows. Don’t come. It’s great if you love ‘Face Down’; it’s not your song.”
“Face Down,” released in 2006, remains the band’s biggest hit and is certified five-times platinum. It appeared on their debut album Don’t You Fake It, which went platinum. The group’s most recent album, The Awakening, came out in 2018.
The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus is currently on a North American tour. They recently performed on the Warped Tour, with the show streamed by Amazon Music. Their next Warped Tour date is set for July 26 in Long Beach.
Winter’s comments reflect his long-standing views on social issues. He has spoken out against racism and homophobia from a religious perspective. In a 2020 interview with Alternative Press, he said he believes true Christianity promotes unity, not division.
“The LGBTQ community has been treated unfairly by some in the Christian community from the start,” Winter said at the time. “That’s not what Jesus taught. Over the years, people have twisted his words to spread fear, racism, and bigotry. Those things are meant to divide us. I want to bring people together. That unity is what God wanted for us.”
