Carey Mulligan is in negotiations to join the cast of Greta Gerwig’s upcoming Chronicles of Narnia adaptation for Netflix, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
If finalized, Mulligan will star alongside previously announced cast members Daniel Craig, Meryl Streep, and Emma Mackey. Gerwig is writing and directing the fantasy feature, her first major project since Barbie.
The film is expected to adapt The Magician’s Nephew, the sixth book in C.S. Lewis’s series, which serves as a prequel to The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. The story follows two children, Digory and Polly, who discover magical worlds through rings given to them by Digory’s uncle (Craig). Streep is voicing Aslan, the lion who creates Narnia, while Mackey will portray Jadis, the White Witch. Mulligan is set to play Digory’s ailing mother. Casting for the film’s child leads is still underway.
Netflix acquired rights to the entire Narnia series in 2018, marking the first time all seven books have been held by one company. The streamer has plans for a slate of films and series based on the beloved fantasy world.
Gerwig’s untitled Narnia film is expected to premiere in IMAX around Thanksgiving 2026, followed by a global Netflix release near Christmas.
Mulligan is a three-time Oscar nominee, recognized for her roles in An Education, Promising Young Woman, and Maestro. Netflix declined to comment on the casting news.
