“Saturday Night Live” returned for its first episode of 2024 on January 20, featuring actor Jacob Elordi as the host and Reneé Rapp as the musical guest. NBC, anticipating the popularity of the duo, promptly began selling merchandise for the episode upon their announcement.
During Elordi’s opening monologue, he humorously referred to the buzz surrounding “Saltburn,” a recent movie known for its explicit content. Acknowledging his role in the film, Elordi quipped, “You might know me from ‘Saltburn.’ Not from seeing the film, just from seeing the TikToks.” He playfully mentioned a scene involving co-star Barry Keoghan and a grave, adding, “I was the one in the grave. If you saw the movie, thank you. If you saw the movie with your parents, I’m sorry. If you saw the movie with your girlfriend, you’re welcome.”
During fan questions, Elordi was asked about his favorite Elvis, to which he humorously responded with “‘Lilo and Stitch’ Elvis.” He also addressed a remark from cast member Sarah Sherman, who found his film “absolutely gross” and specifically mentioned “The Kissing Booth.” Elordi joined in on the laughter, acknowledging, “Yeah, you know what, kissing is kind of weird when you think about it.”
This comment on his Netflix YA franchise comes two months after Elordi expressed his reluctance in an interview, stating he “didn’t want to make those movies before I made those movies” and describing them as “ridiculous” and “not universal.”
In addition to his film success with “Saltburn” and “Priscilla,” Elordi is a prominent figure on HBO’s “Euphoria,” portraying Nate Jacobs. Regarding the third season, he mentioned during a “Tonight Show” appearance, “I hope it’s soon, or they’re going to have to Benjamin Button me or something.”
The episode also featured Reneé Rapp, known for her role in the “Mean Girls” musical movie adaptation, who released her album “Snow Angel.” Rapp’s appearance included a sketch joking about media training and a performance with Megan Thee Stallion, introduced by original “Mean Girls” star Rachel McAdams.
