LONDON — The stars of Jurassic World: Rebirth walked the green carpet in central London on Tuesday night for the film’s world premiere. The event took place at the Odeon Luxe cinema in Leicester Square, where fans gathered to see the latest chapter in the dinosaur franchise.
Among those in attendance were director Gareth Edwards, Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey, Rupert Friend, and Ed Skrein. Writer David Koepp, who wrote the original Jurassic Park, also appeared alongside producer Frank Marshall, composer Alexandre Desplat, and Universal executives Donna Langley and Peter Cramer. A small animatronic dinosaur named Delores, who appears in the film, even posed for photos.
Speaking at the premiere, Johansson described Rebirth as a tribute to Steven Spielberg’s original film. She praised Koepp’s involvement and highlighted Edwards’ admiration for Spielberg.
“I think it really is a love letter to Steven’s work,” Johansson said. “Fans of the Jurassic universe can expect to feel the DNA of the original Jurassic Park in this film.”
Jonathan Bailey reflected on the personal significance of the project. “It’s beyond a dream,” he said. “Jurassic Park was the first film I saw with my family when I was five years old. They’re all here tonight to watch Rebirth with me.” Bailey also revealed that he contributed to the soundtrack by playing alongside a 105-piece orchestra at Abbey Road Studios.
Director Gareth Edwards shared how he first learned about the project. He received a news article from his girlfriend about Universal searching for a director. “I copied and pasted it and sent it to my agent asking, ‘Is this stupid?’” Edwards recalled. “And we’ll find out the answer tonight.”
Before the screening, Edwards introduced the cast and thanked the producers and crew. After leaving the stage, he returned to thank Langley and Cramer. “Oh my god, I nearly ended my career!” he joked. “I honestly thought you guys were in America!”
Set five years after Jurassic World: Dominion, Rebirth explores a world where most dinosaurs survive in isolated equatorial regions. The plot focuses on three giant dinosaurs whose DNA may be the key to a life-saving drug.
Jurassic World: Rebirth opens in theaters on July 2.
