Sabrina Carpenter has earned her first-ever No. 1 debut single on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Manchild.” This marks her second chart-topping hit, following last year’s “Please Please Please” from her Grammy-winning album Short n’ Sweet.
“Manchild” serves as the lead single for Carpenter’s upcoming album Man’s Best Friend, which is set for release on August 29. The track, released on June 5, generated strong numbers in its first week. It recorded 27 million official streams, 14 million radio airplay audience impressions, and 20,000 copies sold in the United States. The single was also issued on 7-inch vinyl, selling 14,000 copies. This edition featured an exclusive instrumental B-side titled “Inside of Your Head When You’ve Just Won an Argument with a Man.”
Carpenter reflected on the song’s creation in an Instagram post. She shared that she wrote it “on a random Tuesday” with Amy Allen and Jack Antonoff, who also co-produced the track. Carpenter described that day as “the best random Tuesday of my life.”
She added that “Manchild” feels like the soundtrack to her young adult years. “It sounds like the song embodiment of a loving eye roll, and it feels like a never-ending road trip in the summer,” Carpenter wrote. “I wanted to give it to you now so you can stick your head out the car window and scream it all summer long.”
Outside of “Manchild,” the Billboard Hot 100 saw no other new entries in the top 10 this week. Alex Warren’s “Ordinary” fell to No. 2, while Morgan Wallen and Tate McRae’s “What I Want” climbed to No. 3. Meanwhile, Wallen’s album I’m the Problem remained at No. 1 on the albums chart for a fourth straight week, with 209,000 equivalent album units.
On the albums chart, five new titles entered the top 10. Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter VI debuted at No. 2. Enhypen’s Desire: Unleash landed at No. 3, marking the group’s fifth top 10 album. Addison Rae’s first full-length album, Addison, opened at No. 4. My Chemical Romance’s Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge hit the top 10 for the first time at No. 6, following a deluxe reissue. Rock band Turnstile scored its first top 10 with Never Enough, which debuted at No. 9.
