Fans of the late Steve Albini are now able to purchase items from his extensive personal collection, including music, books, and more, through a newly-launched website, Steve Albini’s Closet. The prolific musician and recording engineer, who passed away unexpectedly in May 2024, amassed a wide array of collectibles throughout his life, and now fans have the opportunity to own a piece of his legacy.
Administered by former Forced Exposure editor Byron Coley, the site will release new items each Friday. These will range from Albini’s personal books, cassettes, singles, LPs, zines, posters, and original artwork, to quirky and unexpected items. Every piece sold will come with a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Coley, with proceeds benefiting Albini’s estate.
Coley describes the collection as a steady stream of “unusual, rare, weird, and overlooked” treasures, with around 4,000 pieces waiting to be unveiled over the next year. Albini, known for his raw, noise-driven punk bands Shellac, Rapeman, and Big Black, as well as his legendary engineering work on albums like Nirvana’s In Utero and PJ Harvey’s Rid of Me, left behind an indelible mark on music, and his eclectic collection will now find new homes.
